A Good Waitress Can Jump-start Your Day

A Dinner Parties and More Extra . . .

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for waitresses. I especially appreciate the ones who arrive at their work before the sun comes up.

It must be difficult at that early hour to greet everyone with a smile and some friendly banter. But that’s as important to me as the coffee and the grub. A waitress is like an angel who appears out of the fog of my waking hours. And she always seems to get my day started off on the right track.

On a typical early morning visit to my local diner, I will saunter (it’s how I walk in the early a.m.) over to my favorite booth or take a seat at the counter. My waitress will arrive with a pot of coffee. After a healthy pour in my “bottomless cup” she takes my order. Any special requests regarding how I like my eggs, choice of meats, toast, potatoes, pancakes, etc., are handled efficiently. She always gets it right, and she always seems so eager to please.

After a while she’ll return with my order, sometimes carrying cereal bowls in her hands while balancing assorted plates on her arms with pitchers of syrup hooked to her fingers. She places my breakfast in front of me and asks, “Do you want more coffee with that, Hon?” . . . I just love it when they call me “Hon.”
